Atishi, the new Chief Minister of Delhi, emphasized her allegiance to her predecessor Arvind Kejriwal by keeping an empty chair beside her own during her oath taking. She compared herself to Bharat from the Ramayana, who ruled in Lord Ram's absence by placing his sandals on the throne. Atishi stated that she will govern Delhi for the next four months with the same spirit, as she is certain that Kejriwal will be elected as the Chief Minister in the upcoming February elections. The empty chair, she added, will remain in the office, waiting for Kejriwal's return.

"आज मेरे मन में भी वही व्यथा है, जैसी भगवान राम जी के वनवास जाने पर भरत जी के मन में थी। उन्होंने भगवान राम की खड़ाऊँ रखकर शासन चलाया था।

Atishi, a new face, was sworn in as the next Chief Minister of Delhi after Arvind Kejriwal resigned following a court order. Atishi retained the 13 portfolios she held in the previous government, including education, finance, and power. However, the Delhi BJP President criticized Atishi for placing an empty chair beside her, which he considered a violation of constitutional norms and disrespect to the Chief Minister's office. Atishi, at 43 years old, is the youngest ever to be sworn in as the Delhi Chief Minister and the second woman Chief Minister in the country, alongside Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal. Her administration is likely to be short-lived as the Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled to occur in February 2025.
