The body of a woman without a head or clothes was discovered on the national highway in Gujaini, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, early yesterday morning, raising suspicions of rape, murder, and the disposal of the body on the highway. After 24 hours, the police have not made any progress in the case, and efforts to identify the woman are ongoing. The police have reviewed CCTV footage from the area, and footage from a nearby hospital shows a woman of a similar build walking hours before the body was found. The woman in the footage was wearing grey trousers, and pieces of a grey garment were found near the body. The police have formed three teams to investigate the matter and have stated that there are no CCTV cameras at the exact location where the body was found, but a camera about 3 km away captured a woman walking alone, and the clothes she was wearing match the pieces of cloth and slippers found on the highway.
The authorities have sent the body for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. The police have not found any missing person reports in the area that match the recovered body. They are reviewing CCTV footage to ask local residents if they have any information about the woman. Forensic experts have visited the site and collected samples of teeth and bones for analysis. The police are investigating whether this was an accident or a crime and are trying to confirm if the victim was a local resident or from elsewhere. Akhilesh Yadav, a member of parliament and the leader of the main opposition party, has demanded strict action in this disturbing case, stating that the matter should be investigated fairly and that severe punishment should be given to deter such incidents from occurring again.
