On Wednesday, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) suspended the membership of Dr Sandip Ghosh. Central Bureau of Investigation has registered two cases on Ghosh, one is linked with the rape and murder of a junior doctor in his college, where he worked as principal and the other case about his irregularities in the hospital under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Police have conducted raids in many places around Kolkata linked with Ghosh and also some contractors, who were awarded hospital works from Ghosh. The decision from the IMA has come after a day CBI conducted a Polygraph test (lie detecto) on Sandip Ghosh as part of an investigation linked to the postgraduate doctor rape and murder that happened at RG Kar hospital, where he was a principal.

Besides this President Draupadi Murmu has for the first time responded to the incident and called it ‘Enough is Enough’. Murmu on Wednesday said that society has forgotten many rape incidents since the Nirbhaya incident and only a few will grab nations' attention and said it is a ‘collective amnesia’. Murmu said, no civilized society can accept such atrocities to their daughters and sisters. From doctors to civilians, everyone in the country is protesting against the incident, The President added that society needs honest, unbiased self-introspection.

She said we should remove the hurdles in society for our own daughters and sisters and win the freedom of fear. She called to say enough is enough. She asked to remind us of our failures by not giving a safe world for women. She called to deal with such types of criminalities in a comprehensive manner. She said history often hurts, yet we should remember to remove the hurdles. When incidents like this grab national attention, we deep down need to remove such types of problems. She reminded the Nirbhaya case, said how we all worked together and how the nation came face to face against the gang rape and murder. She said our task will remain incomplete till women in the country feel secure and safe in their environment.

Even after implementing strong laws and rigorous punishment, the cruelty still continues. Murmu added that often men feel that women in society are lesser human beings, less powerful, less capable and less intelligent. Very recently Narendra Modi has talked about the crimes against women and said that their government will strengthen the laws to ensure stringent punishment. The RG Kar hospital incident has brought down the nation on one hand. High time for the government to make stronger punishments for such types of cruel acts on women, only then women feel safe.
