Bollywood actress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kangana Ranaut has appealed to people in her Mandi constituency to bring their Aadhaar cards to meet her. The "Queen" actress also asked those who want to meet to write down the purpose of the meeting. Ranot said he is enforcing the law because of the large number of tourists and foreigners who visit his office. He said he would be available to visitors at designated interaction centers at all times during his stay in Mandi, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, which he represents in the Lok Sabha. Ranot said, “As Himachal Pradesh attracts a lot of tourists, they should have an Aadhaar card from Mandi district. Jobs related to the constituency should also be mentioned in the letter to avoid any inconvenience.”
In a public address on July 11, Ranaut said his role as an MP was to deal with issues at the national level and not local panchayat or parliamentary matters. He urged people to only address issues that fell within his purview as a member of Congress so that his efforts would be focused on broader and more impactful issues. Ranaut's unique comment sparked a political controversy. Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh had criticized Kangana Ranaut. “It is not appropriate for a public representative to ask people in his constituency to bring their Aadhaar card if they want to meet him,” Singh said. Kangana defeated Ranaut Vikramaditya Singh, son of former chief minister Virbhadra Singh, from Mandi in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Singh is the minister for persons with disabilities in the Congress-controlled state of Himachal Pradesh. Actress-politician Kangana Ranaut was in the headlines last month after she was slapped by a CISF officer at Chandigarh airport. Earlier this month, a post on social media revealed that CISF cop Kulwinder Kaur, who allegedly slapped Ranaut, has now been brought back to the Bengaluru airport.
