Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has moved the Supreme Court for a seven-day extension of interim bail in connection with the Delhi Liquor Policy case. Kejriwal pointed out serious health concerns and stressed the need for medical tests like PET-CT scan due to 7kg weight loss and elevated ketone levels. Kejriwal was initially granted bail by the Supreme Court until June 1 to facilitate his participation in the general election campaign. Following this verdict, he is scheduled to surrender on June 2 and return to Tihar Jail. The medical team at Max Hospital has already carried out preliminary examinations. The prime minister's lawyers argued that the tests were vital to his health and asked the court for an extension of time to complete the necessary medical examinations. The interim bail granted to Kejriwal was controversial, with BJP leaders claiming he was given “special treatment” by the Supreme Court. However, the judges involved in granting bail insisted that there was no exception in favor of Kejriwal.

The ongoing investigation revolves around alleged irregularities in the formulation and implementation of tax policy (2021-22). The excise policy, introduced to bring about a major revamp of the capital's liquor business, promised a more modern shopping experience with discounts and offers. However, the measure was put on hold as Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinni Kumar Saxena ordered that corruption allegations be investigated. The AAP has accused Saxena's predecessor Anil Baijal of making last-minute changes that have negatively impacted the politician's revenue projections. AAP leader and former Delhi chief minister Manish Sisodia is in judicial custody in connection with the case. Former Delhi deputy chief minister Sisodia was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26 last year, while Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh was arrested by the ED on October 5 and released on bail. In April this year.
