After the heavy rainfall in the northern eastern state, there was an overflow of flood water to the surrounding areas with ice-cold water from the glacial lake. The death toll has risen to 40.

Chungthang Dam got washed away because of the poor construction quality, said Chief Minister Prema Singh Tamang. Speaking to the media, the chief minister blamed the substandard construction quality of the previous government. With the damage of the bridge nearly 21 people were dead and 100 went missing.

The NDRF team is running the rescue operations. Over 22,000 people were affected by the floods and nearly 3000 tourists were stuck in the floods.

According to disaster management, Sikkim floods have been the worst hit in the last 50 years. Many houses were washed away and thousands of people were forced to leave their residences as part of rescue operations. Many people were left homeless.

Even 23 soldiers, who were part of rescue operations, went missing in the flash floods. The key infrastructure of the state was damaged and there is still continuous rainfall in the capital city.

Around 15 bridges have been washed away in downstream and the government is running the rescue operations and evacuating people by using helicopters.
