Himachal Rains: Death Toll Rises To 56

While the country was celebrating its 77th independence day, Himachal Pradesh mourned with the destruction caused by the incessant rains. CM has hoisted the tri-colour and inspected the rain-affected areas. The last three days it was a nightmare for the people of Shimla. At Least 56 people died in the rains that wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh.

The Indian army has been deployed and struggling hard for flood relief operations in Shimla, Fatehpur, Indora and Kangra districts. All the educational institutions were closed in the state.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has requested the public to vacate their houses if they see any cracks in the houses.

19 bodies were recovered out of which 12 bodies were found at the Shiva temple site in summer hill, five at Fagil and two in Krishnanagar. Nearly 10 people are still trapped in the rubble collapse at the Shiva temple in Shimla. The incident occurred when the devotees were offering prayers during the holy Sawan month.

Since Sunday heavy rains have battered Shimla triggering landslides and floods. A two-year-old child was also killed in the landslide. A Unesco-recognized site, Shimla - Kalka railway line was also damaged.
