13.13 Lakh Missing Women and Girls In Country: NCRB

According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), around 13.13 lakh women and girls went missing in India between 2019 and 2021. Madhya Pradesh stands on the top with 1,60,180 women and 38,234 girls missing cases followed by West Bengal and Maharashtra. Minister of State for Home Affairs, Ajay Kumar Mishra in Rajya Sabha told that 10,61,648 women and 2,51,430 girls went missing in the last three years, that is between 2019 to 2022.

West Bengal takes the second place with 1,56,905 missing women and 36,606 missing girls followed by Odisha with 70222 missing women and 16649 lost girls. In Union Territories, National Capital Delhi stands in first place with 61,054 missing women and 22,919 missing girls. With this shocking missing number of women and girls missing cases, the government has launched the Emergency Response Support System (112), the single internationally recognised number for emergencies.

Besides this Telangana state police have traced 87 per cent missing women and girls in their state. The recovery rate of Telangana state is greater than the national average of 62 per cent. TS police with immediate response to the complaints tracing the missing women cases. Missing girls and women were also not linked to any severe crimes like women trafficking, sexual exploitation, bonded labour, begging and child marriages in Telangana.
