Amid the huge crisis of tomatoes, farmers are making some fancy money along with retail vendors. Tomato has crossed Rs 100. Police registers some robberies and some mishaps too because of the Tomato scarcity. Finally, the prices are going to come down with the arrival of new crops.
The Tomato crisis and the price hike have even reached Rajya Sabha. MP Karthikeya Sharma responded in the Parliament monsoon session about the scarcity.
Minister of State of Consumer Affairs Ashwin Kumar Chouney of Maharashtra has announced that the price will come down as the new crop is in the market. The prices will also come down in the Madhya Pradesh market as well.
The government has also started procurement of tomatoes and also allotted a fund to stabilize the price in the consumer market. The National Cooperative Consumers Federation (NCCF) and National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Foundation (NAFED) are already procuring tomatoes from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra to make them available for the better price in Delhi, Bihar and Rajasthan.
With the price hike, farmers started cultivating more Tomatoes, which will help in the stabilization of prices in the coming months. However, the Tomato crop will see a lot of post-harvest losses and might reflect on the price again.
