The Centre has been working closely with several agencies, taking the inputs and is heading for a swift action. Social media turned out to be a major platform and this is even misused by many. As per the inputs from the intelligence agencies, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry blocked 45 videos from ten YouTube channels. All these videos contained morphed videos and fake news. These videos are aimed at spreading hate among the religious communities. The viewership of these videos was over 1.30 crores. Considering the religious rights and the sensitive issues around, the Centre decided to go ahead and block the videos.
Some of the videos blocked were being used to spread disinformation on issues related to Indian Armed Forces, India’s national security apparatus, Kashmir, etc

Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting said that these channels are spreading fear and misconception among the religious communities. False claims and violent threats are in the content of the videos. All of these have been provoking civil war in the country among the people. He said that the videos have good potential to influence the people and cause communal disharmony and they can disrupt the public order. Some of the videos also presented Jammu and Kashmir along with Ladakh outside the Indian territory. The government of India is keen to take any action against those who are attempting to damage the integrity and the sovereignty of the country along with the national security.
