Sri Lanka Crisis: Protests at President's Home

Sri Lanka is left in deep economic crisis and the prices of the basic commodities reached skies. Hundreds of people rushed to the residence of Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and staged a protest. Ten people have been injured and 45 people are arrested in the violence. The citizens slammed the government for the poor handling of the country's economic crisis. The security forces wanted to control the situation and fired on the crowds.Tear gas and water cannon were used to disrupt the crowds. The crowds demanded the resignation of the President. An army bus that was parked near the premises was set on fire by the crowds.

The President Rajapaksa was not at his residence when the protests were staged. Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka was kept under indefinite curfew considering the violence that took place last night. Sri Lanka is badly hit due to the economic crisis that has 22 million population. The country is struggling to pay for the essential imports. More than 2000 people participated in the protests. The videos are posted on social media and they are going viral. The sale of diesel is stalled after the stock is completed. The sale of petrol is on but in short supply. The fuel shortage has hit the public transport in the country. The street lights are kept off in night to save electricity.
