Covid third wave to hit India in August

India witnessed the deadliest second wave of coronavirus. Thousands of people lost their lives and there is huge scarcity for medical facilities, hospital beds and oxygen supplies. Even before the second wave of coronavirus calmed down completely in the country, experts predict that the third wave of Covid-19 would hit the country in August. A report from SBI Research revealed the news and the conclusions are drawn based on the global data trends. The report says that the third wave will start in August and it would reach the peaks in September. The SBI Ecowrap report said that the cases in the peaks of the third wave would be 1.7 times more than the cases reported in the second wave.

May 7th witnessed the highest tally of more than 4 lakh cases in the second wave. Going with the report, India will witness close to 7 lakh cases in the third wave per day when the wave reaches the peaks. India has been reporting close to 40,000 cases on a daily basis from the past two weeks. The vaccination process is happening at a faster pace and 4.6 percent of the Indian population took both the doses of coronavirus vaccine. 20.8 percent of the Indian population received one dose of the vaccine. Earlier SBI predicted second wave and the predictions made by them are close. State Bank of India’s Group Chief Economic Adviser, Soumya Kanti Ghosh told that the daily tally will slip to 10,000 cases per day during the mid of July.

States like Rajasthan, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, and Uttarakhand vaccinated most of the population above 60 years. States like Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, and Jharkhand reported less amount of vaccination for the age group above 45 years. The health experts warned the government and the people to be extra cautious about the Delta Plus variant which is now found in 12 states.
