'Flying Sikh' Milkha Singh is no more

Milkha Singh who is popularly known as Flying Sikh breathed his last yesterday night at 11:30 PM. Milkha Singh is the recipient of four Asian gold medals and he finished fourth in 400m final in Rome Olympics that were held in 1960. The ace athlete is 91 years old and he was tested positive for coronavirus last month. He recovered completely and was tested negative. But his oxygen levels dropped down after which he was moved to ICU. His wife Nirmal Kaur who was a volleyball captain died earlier this week due to coronavirus. Milkha Singh passed away in a private hospital in Chandigarh. The entire nation paid its tributes on the demise of Milkha Singh.

"In the passing away of Shri Milkha Singh Ji, we have lost a colossal sportsperson, who captured the nation’s imagination and had a special place in the hearts of countless Indians. His inspiring personality endeared himself to millions. Anguished by his passing away. I had spoken to Shri Milkha Singh Ji just a few days ago. Little did I know that it would be our last conversation. Several budding athletes will derive strength from his life journey. My condolences to his family and many admirers all over the world" posted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his twitter page. The cremation will take place this evening with state honors at 5 PM in Chandigarh.

Milkha Singh battled with coronavirus for over a month. He is survived by his son Jeev Milkha Singh and three daughters. He was honored with Padma Shree by the government of India for his contribution to the country.
