The Indian strain of coronavirus which is called B.1.617.2 or Delta is named as one of the dangerous variants among the existing strains. A study said that Delta is more infectious than B.1.17 or Alpha variant that was detected in the United Kingdom. These two variants are the reason behind the second wave of coronavirus. A team of scientists from various Indian institutions confirmed the above after an intense research done after the second wave of coronavirus saw light. The research said that the Delta variant is highly transmissible and it surges without an increase in the fatality rate.

The study said that the Delta variant is 50 percent more transmissible than the Alpha variant. Delta is capable of creating faster outbreaks. A strong public response is needed to face the variant. The study was conducted by National Centre for Disease Control, Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR-IGIB), Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Consortia (INSACOG). A total number of 10,427 samples of adults are tested. The study also confirmed that India had the cases of the UK variant Alpha. The study also said that the spread was huge because of the insufficient neutralizing immunity even after high seropositivity and the social behavior of the people.
