20 Dead and Many Injured Due To Landslides In Assam

Around 20 people died due to landslides in Southern Assam on Tuesday. The district administrations reported seven dead in each region, Cachar and Hailakandi. Other six people lost their lives in Karimganj. The deaths include three children.

In Cachar district of Jaipur, 6 children were buried alive when a heavy mudslide hit the house. Police officials recovered a woman and a child and took them to a govt hospital. The landslide is triggered due to heavy rainfall. This tragic incident took place at 5 am on Tuesday.

According to the reports, six people were killed from one family in Karimganj district that touches the Bangladesh border.

The official source gives an estimation of damage with landslides. It affected lakhs of people in 356 villages of Assam.

Another incident happened in Bhtatbazar village in Hailkandi district in which six people from the same family were buried alive. The deaths in this incident included four children.

Assam Chief Minister “Deeply anguished at the loss of lives due to landslides triggered by incessant rain in Barak valley.

“I have directed Cachar, Hailakandi & Karimganj district administrations and SDRF to step up rescue, relief operations and facilitate all possible help needed to those affected.”

Sonowal also sanctioned financial help to the families of the affected people in the dreadful landslides.

The rescue teams of Assam State Disaster Response Force and police team went for emergency help. They recovered the buried alive bodies from the mud and rushed the injured people to hospital.
