The national capital city of India has witnessed the protests against the visit of the President of the United States Donald Trump to India where in there has been a gathering in front of Jantar Mantar in which several hundreds of students, workers, women, activists and youth have taken part.

Various organizations which includes All India Peace and Solidarity Organization (AIPSO), All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), Forum for Trade Justice, Mazdoor Ekta Committee, Center of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Indian Federation of Trade Unions, Students Federation of India (SFI) and All India Students Association (AISA) have taken part in the protest.

Permissions for organizing a protest march from the Mandi House were asked by the organizations to the Delhi police but however the permission was denied and they have been told by the police that protest can be held in Jantar Mantar but it would have to get wrapped up by the afternoon.

Pallav Sengupta who is the general secretary of the All India Peace and Solidarity Organization has said that they have been put into a lot of pressure to not organize the demonstration but the AIPSO has not relented nor did they give in. She has also mentioned saying that the protest that has been held is not just a protest against the visit of US President Donald Trump to India but it is also an expression of solidarity with several countries like Cuba, Libya and Venezuela where the lives of the people have been destroyed by the invasion of the United States.

Nilotpal Basu who is the politburo member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] and also the general secretary of All India Peace ans Solidarity Organization (AIPSO) has told to NewsClick that, “Demonstrations are being organized across the country to protest against Trump’s visit to India. His visit has nothing to do with the welfare of the people of India.”

He added saying that the President of the United States Donald Trump’s visit to India is just an act to show the world prior to the presidential elections that he has a power which can force a country like India and that both Donald Trump and the Prime Minister of India are just seeking to flourish the big corporations and that neither of them care about the people.

He has also added saying that the United States is trying to make the country India in implementing the policies which would in turn benefit the United States and that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being succumbed to the pressure. “He is becoming a junior strategic partner of the US, subservient to Trump,” said Nilotpal Basu.

Animesh who is the general secretary of Indian Federation of Trade Unions has told NewsClick the reason behind the protest and why should protests be conducted against the visit of the US President to India where in he has mentioned that the President of the United States is in the urge of making Indians buy as many products as possible so that the people in the United States can salvage their economy by making use of the Indians.
