India to Build new Steel Fence along Pakistan, Bangladesh Borders

A new non-cut steel fence is said to be erected by India to plug vulnerable and infiltration-prone patches along its sensitive border with Pakistan and Bangladesh, said the officials on Friday.

Erection of a single-row fence,containing loops of concertina wires on top is being done at 60-km border stretch near Amritsar in Punjab. A ‘pilot project’ of this new fence is being analyzed by the BSF and is also being tested at a 7-km stretch in Assam’s Silchar along the India’s border with Bangladesh, said the officials.

The official sources said that, the cost of the fence will be Rs 2 crore for a kilometer. New fence is said to erected at various places where either the old fence has worn out or else there was no fence owing to geographical challenges, basing on the feedback of the present projects.

The border management division under the Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA) and border Security Force have speed up the Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS). The Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS) entails deployment of smart fences, advanced surveillance gadgets and anti-infiltration alarms.

These terror operatives have been travelling across the borders from Afghanistan and has resulted in an enhanced vigil by the security forces in order to thwart the infiltration and terror bids in Jammu and Kashmir along the sensitive frontier.

The BSF has said that, there is lot of work which is happening in order to secure the borders along Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The sources said that, the latest measures include the strengthening defence of India along Pakistan, mapping of infiltration prone area along the two borders, and erection of new steel fence along vulnerable patches.

An assessment has said that, a close tab on the activities of cross-border terror modules and terrorists are being put by the security agencies as some incidents of attacks can be anticipated on the security forces that are deployed in the Kashmir valley and around the Jammu area.
