A symbolic red flag was hoisted by Iran on Saturday. The red flag has been hoisted atop a mosque in the Shiite holy city of Qom after its commander Qassim Soleimani was killed in an attack by the US.

The hoisting of the flag took place in Jamkaran Mosque which is one among the primary significant mosques in Iran. The flag hoisting has been telecasted live on state TV.

The hoisting of a red flag symbolizes the blood spilled unjustly and it also serves as a call for a revenge, in the tradition of Shiite.

Iran-based social media users commented that hoisting of the red flag at the Jamkaran mosque is considered as being the first time in the recent history.

Thousands of people were calling for a revenge as they descended on the streets of Iran. The mourners kept chanting “America is the great Satan”, as the citizens flooded the streets of Baghdad, the capital of Iran during the funeral procession of Suleiman and Abu Mahdi al- Muhandis. Abu Mahdi al- Muhandis was a senior Iraqi militia commander who was also killed in the same strike.

The president of the US, Donald Trump says, he has ordered for the strike in order to prevent a conflict. According to the administration of the US, a series of attacks were planned by Soleimani which put American troops and officials in danger and no evidence has been provided.

A series of rockets which were launched in Baghdad fell inside or near the Green Zone which consists of several Government offices and foreign embassies which included the US Embassy.

The corpse of Soleimani has arrived in Iran on Sunday morning as fresh warnings were issued by the president Trump which were directed at Tehran.

Donald Trump has later tweeted that the US has already “targeted 52 Iranian sites (representing the 52 American hostages taken by Iran many years ago), some at very high level & important to Iran & the Iranian culture.” Though the targets were not identified, Trump said that it would be “HIT VERY FAST AND VERY HARD.”
