Israel and US embassies get heightened securities following unrest

The embassies of Israel and USA are being reviewed for security and deployment of additional intelligence officers is to be done in order to monitor and secure the movements of diplomats in the after math of the assassination of Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in a US strike.

A high-security alert for overseas delegations has been announced by the Israel’s defence officials as they feared retaliation by the Iranians.

In Chanakyapuri, Humayun Road and Vasanth Vihar, Delhi Police and Special cell were asked to deploy personnel in plainclothes as discussed in a closed-door meeting of intelligence and anti-terror unit officials.

The safety of officials is the main concern of the foreign and domestic intelligence agencies of India and Israel because of the assassination attempt on an Israeli diplomat in 2012 in Delhi. The incident mention is about an explosion that has taken place close to the PM’s residence where in three people which included Israeli defence attache’s wife Tal Yehoshua Korene being injured.

The investigation that was done by Indian and Israeli intelligence was pointing towards the role of a group Iranian men which was connected with the IRGC. The Delhi Police’s anti-terror wing which was handling the case did not blame the group in the records. However, Israel was blaming Iran for the attacks.

Later, Delhi Police has charged journalist Syed Mohammad Kazmi and four Iranians- Houshang Afshar Irani, Mohammad Reza Abolghasemi, Seyed Ali Mahdiansadr and Sedaghatzadeh Masoud. Letters rogatory have also been written by the Delhi Police to five countries namely, Iran, Israel, Thailand, Georgia and Malaysia regarding the information about the Iranian men as the attack has been a part of coordinating attacks occurring at several locations in south Asia.
