Section 144 has been imposed in Bengaluru which states of prohibitory orders for three days and it starts from 6am on Thursday to 21st December midnight.

The orders are being passed due to the protests being held for and against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and is expected to be held on Thursday and Friday.

The City police Commissioner said that more than 80 organizations, some being for and some against the Citizenship Amendment Act have come to seek permission for protesting on Thursday but as the police dis not approve as it sensed trouble.

Bhaskar Rao, City police Commissioner,said, “On Wednesday, more than 80 organizations, some against and some supporting CAA had come to seek permission from police to stage protest on Thursday. Sensing trouble and anticipating that anti-social elements taking disadvantage of the situation, we have decided not to allow any protests. “

Under section 144, prohibition of five or more people assembling takes place. Therefore, five or more people assembling, holding public meetings have been prohibited in Bengaluru on Thursday and Friday.

Bhaskar Rao clarified that the educational institution and the government offices  will be functioning normally and that there shall be no problem in transport which includes BMTC fleet.

“There will be no problem for the transport including BMTC fleet. Government offices will also be open as usual. There is no ban on sale of liquor as well,” Rao said.
