India’s NAVIC to be designated as “allied” navigational satellite system by the US Congress along with the Galileo of the European Union and QZSS of Japan. It designates Russia’s GLONASS and Chinese Beidou as a “non-allied system” by being approved as a part of the conference report of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) 2020 which makes us understand that the US satellite navigation system will not exchange data with these two satellite navigation systems.
The NAVIC system of India would be treated as “allied system”as a part of the American effort inorder to develop a program for multi-global navigation satellite system receiver development along with the Galileo system of the European Union and QZSS of Japan. It would be treated upon designation by the US defense secretary and consulting the director of national intelligence, as per the NDAA 2020 which is approved by bicameral conference report.
Before sending it to the White House for the president to sign into law, the conference report needs to be formally approved by the House and the Senate.
A program to prototype an M-code based, multi-global navigation satellite system receiver will be carried out by the Air Force secretary, as per NDAA 2020.
