Maldives has always been a close neighbor and maritime influence for India. In a conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, he said that India is committed to partnering with the Maldives to help with the overall prospect of development.

In addition to that, both the countries are also on the road to work together to enhance their cooperation with respect to peace and mutual security around the Indian Ocean region.

PM Modi spoke on the said topic at an event that witnessed the gifting of a fast interceptor vessel to the Maldives via video conferencing. Further elaborating on it, PM Modi said that the Indian government’s “Neighbourhood First” along with the “First India” policy is what has contributed to further strengthening the bilateral ties in all the sectors.

In the years to come, some of the projects done with the Indian government’s assistance is expected to bring forth more benefits for the people residing in Maldives. Quoting PM Modi, he clarified stating, “as a close friend and maritime member, India is committed to partnering with the Maldives for democracy and development.”

Whether or not the same is going to prove beneficial for either or the countries is a matter that will unfurl as the time goes on.
