On Tuesday morning outside Ernakulam police station, one of the two women who entered Sabrimala temple was mercilessly attacked with chili powder while she was on her way to the shrine along with Trupti Desai, a Pune-based activist.

On November 16th, after the two-month-long portals of Lord Ayyappa opened she wanted to go into the shrine and seek blessings. Although women during their menstrual period of 10-50 years are not allowed in the temple, she managed to get there.

When Bindu had first reported the incident to the police, immediate action against the culprit wasn’t taken.

On the flip side, one of the officials said, the right-wing leaders and Ammini had a heated argument after which they sprinkled chili powder on her and then she was taken to the hospital.

Along with five other women, Ammini and Desai arrived at the Kochi International Airport and they went to the Kochi Commissioner for police security.

Desai preferred November 26th as an apt day for visiting the temple as it is the Constitution day and she came up with the 2018 order of the Supreme court allowing women of all age groups to enter Lord Ayyappa’s temple. She quoted  "I will leave Kerala only after offering prayers at the shrine”.

Ammini and Kankadurga who use one name started to climb towards the temple at 1.26 am and they stood in the VIP line, seeing that it was too crowded they had a short darshan and nobody inside objected them. A pilgrim was kind enough to offer them water.
