2010-2018 - 9 Lakh Increase In The Number Of Indians In US

There has been a statistical study on the number of Indians in the US and it has been observed that there is a decrease in the number of new migrants and an increase in the number of immigrants.

This survey measures the US population. Having said, measuring the population as of July 2018, the total population in the US is 327 million, of which

Part I

(i) In 2018, the foreign-born population in the US is 44.7 million

(ii) In 2010, the foreign-born population in the US was 40 million

There is an increase of 11.8%.

Part II

(i) In July 2018, in the entire foreign-born population, there are 5.9% Indians.

(ii) In 1990, there were just 4.5lakh Indians who were born in India and settled in the US.

(iii) Looking at the entire US population there are less than 1%Indians.

The study says from 2010-2018 the number of Indians in the US increased by 8.7 lakhs. Comparing the number of Indians in 1990 and 2018 there is an increase in the population by 489%.

Further, the US Census Board defines foreign-borns as the Indians who were not originally born in the US before they got their citizenship. It focuses on the ones who got their US Citizenship, Green Card and H1B visas. Tourists and people on short visits are excluded.

Also, the CIS Research Paper conducted a study to find out about the number of legal and illegal residents in US from 2017 to 2018 and it finds that there is a decrease in the number of residents in 2018 due to strict rules and changes in the law ever since Trump Administration has taken over.
