Ohio Unemployment Rate In May Drop To 4.9 Percent

Ohio unemployment rate in May has been dropped to 4.9 percent, which was 5 percent in the month of April.

Ohio’s non-agricultural wage and salary employment has increased 6,300 over a month, from a revised 5,509,100 April to 5,515,400 in May.

The local county unemployment figures will be released on Tuesday.

The number of workers unemployed in Ohio in May were 286,000, down by 2,000 from 288,000 in April.

The state’s May civilian labor force, or the sum of the employed and unemployed, was 5,789,000, an increase from April’s 5,787,000.

The state saw increases in the private sector of 5,200, in professional and business services of 7,000, mining and logging of 100, educational and health services of 6,500, other services of 2,900, financial activities of 1,900, state government of 5,000, local government of 1,300, and federal government of 400.

The state saw decreases in manufacturing of 3,600, 2,100 losses in construction, leisure and hospitality of 6,000, trade and transportation utilities of 5,900, and information of 1,200.

The number of unemployed has increased by 4,000 in the past 12 months from 282,000.

The May unemployment rate for Ohio, at 4.9 percent, did not change from May 2016.

The U.S. unemployment rate for May was 4.3 percent, 0.1 percentage points lower than in April, and 0.4 percentage points lower than in May 2016.
