The massive crash occurred at about 1:50 p.m., after the Maryland Transportation Authority police were conducting a traffic stop on the left shoulder, according to the press release from State Police.

Traffic was moving slowly at that time, when the 2016 black Ford Transit struck with the rear of a red 2009 Lincoln MKS, pushing the vehicle into a white 2011 Lexus IS30C. The Lexus then struck the white 2017 Ford Transit, that hit a black 2012 Volkswagen Passat in the side. The driver of Passat hit a side of the white 2009 Hummer H3.

The first four vehicles completely blocked the two lanes, while the other two vehicles came to rest on the right shoulder.

The road was closed for about 20 minutes for the ambulance response.

The back-ups upward of four miles were reported on the already-busy highway. It was the second major crash in Harford/Baltimore County area of the I-95, after seven people were taken to the hospitals after an early-morning accident near the exit for Fallston/Joppa, the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company reported.
