Four local Indian-Americans from Massachusetts had completed the historic Boston Marathon on Sunday. Two Kenyans had won the title to continue their country’s legacy of dominance in the sport of marathons.
The four Indian-Americans who completed the marathon are Rishi Palriwala of Needham, Deepika Sawhney of Lexington, Varavani Dwarki of Southborough, and Usha Narayana of Natick.
The 2017 Boston Marathon brought together about 30,000 runners from all around the globe and also had more than one million spectators.
Palriwala of Needham ran in the marathon of 2017 to raise funds for the Big Brother Big Sister (BBBS) program of Boston, an organization in which he has been part of for nearly three years. He is co-founder of the ARP Ventures and previously worked as Finance Manager for the Smith and Nephew Orthopedics. Narayana of Natick completed her race and she raised $5,000 for the Natick Community Organic Farm. Narayana works for the Bank of America managing their savings products.
“I got a bib for the marathon through the town of Natick. I raised $5k for the Natick Community Organic Farm with the help of friends and family to support their educational programs for young kids. It was an amazing experience – one I hope to repeat again someday,” said Narayana.
Dwarki of Southborough also completed the Boston Marathon and he ran for his charity, National Organization for Rare Disorders, which known as NORD, a non-profit patient advocacy organization dedicated to the individuals with rare diseases and also to the organizations which serve them. Dwarki is a vice president at the Sanofi.
