Snapchat to Setup International Hub in UK

Snapchat which is now known as Snap Inc, has recently announced that it is going to set up its most important international hub in the UK, which is more likely to be seen as a vote of confidence for British technology following the Europe Union referendum result.

The organization said that it chose the UK because of the country’s strong creative industries, it is a move that bucks the trend of American tech companies favouring low tax jurisdictions such as Luxembourg, where Amazon is based, Ireland where Facebook and Apple Inc have their international headquarters.

Snap Chats UK general manager stated that, The UK is where the Snapchat’s advertising clients are, where more than 10 million Snapchatters are, and Snapchat has already begun to hire talent.

Although Britain has yet to leave the European Union, or even begin the process by invoking Article 50, the smaller tech organisations have expressed fears over the likely effect Brexit, particularly called as a “hard Brexit”, it would have an effect on the sector. But larger firms, like Facebook and Google, had recently committed that they are going to invest more in the country.

The new UK organisation is called Snap Group Limited, following its US parent’s rebranding from Snapchat to Snap Incorporated. The name is intended to focus on Snap’s new self-image as a camera company first and foremost.

The Company told that “they believe that reinventing the camera represents their  greatest opportunity to improve the way people live and communicate.”

That reinvention was supported by Snap chat’s second ever product, a pair of glasses with a built-in Wi-Fi camera called Spectacles. The gadget, which has only been sold through custom-built vending machines temporarily installed in various locations around the US, has been a hit among fans, despite its limited availability.

Spectacles have yet to be released in rest of the world, but when Snapchat does, maximum revenue will be collected through the Britan. A spokesperson confirmed that “Snap Group Limited” will not only record revenue made in the UK, but they will also revenue from other countries where the Snapchat has no local presence.

With a stated user base of over 150million, Snapchat is a smaller social platform than its seeming giant competitors like Facebook and Twitter, with over a billion and 350 million users respectively. But the company has focused on dominating a few particular niches over the broad-based reach of the larger firms, and is particularly popular among young people in Britain and in the America. The organisation claims that more than 60 percent of UK smartphone users, who are aged between 13 and 34 are Snapchatters. Those numbers add up: research firm eMarketer estimates the company could pull in almost $1bn advertising revenue over this year.
