MPs Call Compulsory English lessons for Immigrants

According to a verdict by the group of MP’s led by the Labor party’s. Immigrants who come into great Britain must know English or should be enrolled in Compulsory English lessons before they arrive.

It is the sign which even country’s left wing is moving right on immigration in the wake of the decision to leave the European Union.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Social Integration, led by former Labor leadership candidate Chuka Umunna, published their report on Thursda. The question of how to integrate the many migrants that have landed on the UK shores in recent years.

The report also reflected the scrambling by UK politicians to get serious on the subject of mass migration, which was a key motivator for many who voted for “Brexit” -- particularly in the northern side and white working class areas.

The report acknowledges this, calling for a new approach to immigration “in the wake of the Brexit vote,” but instead of focusing on reducing numbers, the report also highlighted the integration as the key problem faced in Britons immigration policy.

The report said, “Brexit was the wake-up call: globalization has not been delivered for all and now more than ever, we need political leaders who can prioritize integration in order to address the deep societal divisions that were exposed on June 23 2016.”

Most of the report’s recommendations focuses upon the responsibilities of central and local government, recommending regionalizing immigration policy, and spending more wealth on integration methods and reduce the fee for citizenship applications. However, the report also demands that immigrants coming to the Briton must speak English.

According to the reports, Immigrants should know English or enroll their name in compulsory “English for Speakers of Other Languages” classes upon arrival.

The report also cites, new immigrants are encouraged to build up a social group, to know their local town or community and take voluntary work.

“It is very clear now, that immigration has impacted on different communities in different ways and the pace of change has alarmed many.”

Immigration has always been a keen issue for UK politicians at least for some years now, both the National parties, the Labor Party and the ruling Conservative Party were criticized for not having brought any immigration numbers under the control.

In 2010, Former Prime Minister ‘David Cameron’ urged on reducing immigration to below 100,000 every year but failed to meet the target. Instead, the annual immigration numbers jumped above 300,000 while he was in power.

Additionally, to his failure of successfully renegotiate control over UK’s border policy from the Europe -- particularly on the question of how long Europe immigrants have to wait before being able to claim welfare benefits -- wounded Cameron in the lead-up to the referendum and led many voters to conclude that the only way to get immigration under control was to leave the trading bloc.

The report is a sign that the moderate Labor Member of Parliament like Umunna are responding to concerns among Brexit voter, many of whom are based in Labor-controlled areas, about immigration.

However, immigration hardliners attacked the report as too little too late. The populist UK Independence Party dismissed the report, saying that integration efforts without cutting the number of migrants into the country was “meaningless.”

In the government report, which was published in December last year, warned about the “unprecedented pace and scale” of latest immigration’s and the report suggested new migrants must be made to pledge an oath of integration, surrounded by fears that many Muslim immigrants do not identify themselves as being British.
