Maintenance worker accused of putting cameras in bathrooms arraigned

Gerald Rowe, 65-year-old was arrested by the authorities in Warren County for the cause of putting Hidden cameras in the homes of five young women, officials said. He worked as a maintenance worker at the Steeplechase apartment complex for about a year and a half.

Residents at the apartment said that “they felt violated and horrified to hear that one of their maintenance workers was putting cameras in bathroom vents.”   

The Warren County Sheriff’s Officer said, one of the motion activated camera showed Rowe when he was installing the camera.

“It's a big privacy issue, you know? That makes me feel really violated,” said resident Michelle Wainscott.

“He was very nice. You would have never guessed that he was that type of a person like he was super nice. I never got a bad vibe from him,” Wainscott said.

“They knew him and they trusted him and that was part of the horror that they've gone through today, besides the heinous invasion of their privacy in the one place that you feel the safest -- at your home,” Warren County Sheriff’s Officer Lt. John Faine said.

One woman reported after she found a camera in her bathroom ceiling, Officials said, the Sheriff’s Department then started an investigation and found five cameras all in the apartments of young women.

Investigators said the cameras were small devices about half the size of a Smartphone, and several inches thick. He installed as far back as February of this year. As per prior record, Investigators also said Rowe is a father and grandfather.

“I can't imagine if he has a daughter what he would do if that was his daughter that was being put on camera without her knowing,” said resident Jennifer Owens.

Rowe is locked up in Warren County Jail without bond. He faced five counts of burglary and five counts of voyeurism.
