Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge is all set to become the Wimbledon Tennis Club’s official patron. She will take over the patronage from Queen Elizabeth II in 2017.
The queen has been played the role for past 64 years. Kate will also take the responsibilities like handing out trophies to champions after tournaments. This role has been doing by the queen’s cousin, Duke of Kent for the last 40 years.
At present, the Duke of Kent will continue to present awards to Wimbledon champions until Kate assumes her new position. “They will let us know when the change happens. We will just be told. Until we hear otherwise I can only assume the Duke will hand out prizes as usual," a spokesperson for Wimbledon said.
