Uttarakhand floor test concludes as per Supreme Court instructions

As per the instructions of the Supreme court, President’s rule was temporarily lifted for two hours in Uttarakhand as proceedings for floor test begin in assembly. The crucial floor test is to ascertain whether sacked chief minister Harish Rawat has the majority in the Uttarakhand Assembly, following Supreme Court directions with nine disqualified Congress MLAs being kept out of it.

Ousted Chief Minister Harish Rawat said that he is sure that the Congress will pass the test with flying colours and claim back its power in the state. "Majority is with us, the sentiments of the common are with us. The gods are with us. Let the BJP make whatever claims they want to but I am sure that we will win, Uttarakhand will win with flying colors," said Rawat.

Lawmakers came out of the Uttarakhand Assembly as the trust vote sought by the Congress' Harish Rawat ended, but they were not at liberty to share what happened inside the House. The Supreme Court will officially reveal the result on Thursday whether Mr Rawat has won or not.

The Uttarakhand Assembly has 70 members, out of which 27 belongs to the Congress, excluding the nine rebels. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has 28 members, while there are six from other parties.

“I thank the Supreme Court, democratic forces, people of Uttarakhand and Gods. Uttarakhand will be victorious tomorrow. Won’t comment on what happened inside. Clouds of uncertainty will soon vanish,” Harish Rawat said.

“Congress ne dhan-bal ka prayog kiya, wahi kaaran hai ki aankdon ke khel mein sadan ke andar hum reh gaye (Congress used the power of money, that’s why we lost the numbers game inside the Assembly,” Ganesh Joshi, BJP.
