The government’s promise to give minimum of 1000 rupees of pension to the EPFO account holders, who were exclusively getting lesser than 1000, has been suspended apparently as per the reports by the media.

Actually the plan to fix the pension minimum at 1000 Rupees was made by UPA-2 government in 2014. Though the cabinet approved the move on February 28, 2014 could not be able to implement as the EC announced the poll dates on March 5.

Soon after the Modi government formed, it has taken into the shape in the month of September 2014. With this decision 32 lakh pensioners got benefit, but the latest move would disappoint them a lot. Around 49 lack pensioners (including those who are getting above 1000) are getting pension through the EPFO.

The trade unions have been planning for massive protests against the government and EPFO. Hind Mazdoor Sabha secretary A.D. Nagpal said, “All central trade unions would take up the issue with the Prime Minister and write a letter to him demanding resumption of the scheme. We will also launch a nation-wide protest against this decision”.

Other unions are also demanding the government to get back their decision of suspending.  The pensioners want the newly implemented pension rates to be continued as they won’t be having other livelihood in the old age.

The reported decision to suspend the minimum pension would throw the old persons to get minimum amount that was even at 100 rupees per month.
