Former Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh, who was replaced by S Jaishankar, said on Friday, that she had prior intimation about the appointment of S Jaishaknar as new Foreign Secretary through External Affairs Minister Mrs Sushma Swaraj telephoned her at 2 pm and conveyed the Prime Minister’s choice. But the media speculations and own (media's) commentary has pained her and disrespects 39 years of her service.
She said the "commentary" that she has seen about herself over the past two days "has pained me deeply. I believe that it was not necessary to get low and dirty".
She also said that, she just wanted to handover papers get exit in a simple manner, without any ceremony or fuss. She expressed her concern over media’s over action and speculations tarnished her reputation.
However, she reiterated that she was ready with her resignation letter to leave the post with no specific reasons. She lauded the MEA and entire staff for maintain good and prospective relation among all, and has requested the media and other groups not to politicize her departure.
