Researchers developed an advanced Protective suit which may reduce the risk of infection for health workers who are taking part in treating Ebola affected patients. With this garment the health workers and all interacting people can work effectively in fighting Ebola. This newly designed garment can sustain hot, humid and tropical climate conditions.

This new advanced suit (prototype) is being designed and developed by the team of Medical experts, students, engineers and other volunteers under the guidance of Johns Hopkins University’s Centre for Bio engineering Innovation and Design (CBID) and Jhpiego, a nonprofit Johns Hopkins affiliate organization that focuses on international health programs.

The first projects finalized for federal funding were announced earlier this month by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) through its new program called “FIGHTING EBOLA: A GRAND CHALLENGE FOR DEVELOPMENT”. However the precise amount of funding and other support that the USAID will award to this project is still under review.

The cooling technology used in this garment development originally developed by Johns Hopkins Cardiologist Dr. Harikrishna Tandri for cooling the patients in Cardiac arrest. This concept was successfully implemented for designing the Protective suit for health workers and persons associated with caring and treating the Ebola affected patients.

According to WHO the death toll by Ebola virus reached 7400, whereas more than 19000 people are affected by Ebola virus from west Africa region only.
