Government announced Bharat Ratna awards to Freedom fighter Shri Madan Mohan Malaviya(posthumously) and Former PM Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Freedom fighter and Educationist Madan Mohan Malaviya was prominent figure in Indian National Congress, Freedom movement and Hindu Nationalism. He served as INC president in two occasions between 1909-10 and 1918-19.

Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya founded Banaras Hindu University at Varanasi in 1916. He also served as Vice-Chancellor to BHU during 1919 to 1938. He started an English News Paper ‘The Leader’ from Allahabad.

Shri Atal Bihari Vajapyee, two times Prime Minister led India towards inclusive and infrastructural growth, taken initiative to bridge the gap between India and Pakistan. His boldness can be understand from Kargil war decision and 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests. He faced uncertainty in his government in 1996 due to coalition concerns.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee participated in Quit India movement in 1942 for which he was imprisoned for 23 days. He strongly criticized Indira Gandhi’s Emergency decision. AB Vajpayee was in active politics till 2009 in various positions. It is long pending desire of BJP and RSS to honor AB Vajpayee with highest civilian award of the nation Bharat Ratna.

Rashtrapathi Bhavan first announced this news with a tweet saying President was pleased to award this award to Pt.Malaviya and AB Vajpayee. And PM Modi termed in a tweet that Atal ji as a guide, inspiration and giant among giants and said that highest honor to the illustrious stalwarts is a fitting Recognition of their service to the Nation.
