Tamil Nadu's Ex Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was on Friday granted two-months bail by the Supreme Court of India on medical grounds. The apex court also suspended the Karnataka High Court's sentence in the Disproportionate Assets case.

Jayalalithaa was serving a jail term after being convicted in the illegal assets case. Earlier the Karnataka High Court had turned down her bail plea.

Jayalalithaa's three associates were also granted bail by the apex court.

Currently Jayalalithaa is lodged at the Bangalore Central Prison. The AIADMK chief is expected to walk out of jail soon after the prison authorities receive the bail orders.

On September 27, the AIADMK chief and the three others were convicted by a Bangalore trial court in the 18-year-old case. Jaya was sentenced to four years in jail for possessing assets worth over Rs.66 crores, which was ruled disproportionate to her known sources of income during her first stint as Tamil Nadu chief minister from 1991 to 1996.

Jaya's bail happens to be the 43rd birthday of her party birth anniversary of AIADMK. Amma's party workers and hardcore fans are thrilled with the news of her bail. Across Tamil Nadu there are reports of spirited celebration over her bail.

The apex court has granted bail to Jayalalithaa on the condition that she will remain confined to her Chennai home for the bail-period.

Jayalalithaa had approached the Supreme court on October 9 after her bail plea was turned down by the Karnataka High Court on October 7, along with the bail plea of three other convicts Sasikala Natrajan, VK Sudhakaran and J Ilavarasi in the illegal assets case.
