The Badaun gangrape case had attracted ample media attention to force the Uttar Pradesh government to investigate into the matter deeply. The latest report on the case suggests that the two minor girls could have been a victim of honour killing that is prevalent in the Hindi heartland.
Recently, the parents of the two girls failed the lie ditector test. The CBI reportedly said the parents seemed to have lied about the allegations in the Badaun gangrape and murder case, trying to mislead the investigation.
Forensic reports suggest that there were contradictions in the statements given by the parents of the victims to cops. The report has been confirmed by CBI director Ranjit Sinha, who said that the agency's investigation is being led by circumstantial evidence.
Now the CBI is now waiting for reports from the forensic labs in Hyderabad and Gandhinagar before making a formal move.
The five men, who had been accused of rape and murder of the girls, had passed the lie detector tests last week.
On the night of May 27, the two minor girls had gone missing from Sadatganj village in Badaun. The girls had gone out into a field to attend to nature's call and did not return. The next day their bodies were found hanging from a mango tree.
Initial postmortem report of the victims confirmed rape before their murder, which seemed to be from strangulation due to hanging.
