If you felt that travelling to different destinations out of Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport was quite convenient then you were right. The airport provides world class facilities and services, for which it has been recognised the third time in a row.

Delhi's IGI airport has been conferred the second rank in the world, when it comes to service quality. This is the third consecutive time that Delhi's IGI was adjudged the second place among airports, which handle 25-40 million passengers per annum.

In the same category the Airport Council International (ACI) placed Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at the fifth rank.

The ACI is a global body of airports that represents their interests before governments and in international organisations. The ACI covers 1,751 airports across 174 countries of the world.

However, when it comes to global ranking of airports, the Delhi airport is in sixth rank, one place below last year's fourth position.

In a scale of 5 points Delhi's IGI scored 4.84 on service quality scale and got recognised as the sixth best airport in the world among 235 airports, which had participated in all categories.

ACI ranks airports in terms of their passenger handling capacity. Airports have been divided into the following five categories: over 40 million passengers category, 25-40 million passengers category, 15-25 million passengers category, 5-15 million passengers category and 2-5 million passengers category.

The ACI's Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Award ceremony was recently held in Seoul in South Korea.  A 10-member Delhi Airport team attended the ceremony to receive the second rank award. The team included representatives from Airline Operating Committee (AOC),  DIAL, Delhi Duty Free Services Pvt Ltd, CISF and Jet Airways.
