2 blasts at Chennai Railway Station, 1 dead, 9 injured},{2 blasts at Chennai Railway Station, 1 dead, 9 injured

Twin blasts on a train at the Chennai central railway station left a woman dead and nine others injured. The blast took place on the Bangalore-Guwahati Express around 7:15 am.

The train had just arrived at platform 9 of the station when the two blasts took place between coach number S4 and S5. The two coaches were damaged in the incident.

Senior railway officer RK Mishra stated that the two blasts were of minor intensity.

As of now, the nature of the blast is unknown.

The 22 year-old woman has been identified as Swati, travelling from Bangalore to Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. The victim was going to visit her relatives in Guntur. She was spot dead and her relatives have been informed.   

The blast left two people with critical injury, while seven people suffered minor injuries. The injured people were taken to a local hospital.

The state government announced Rupees one lakh as compensation for the family of the dead woman. The family of the critically wounded have been promised a compensation of  Rs. 55,000, while those with minor injuries were to receive Rs. 5,000.  

Police personnels have cordoned off the station and sniffer dogs have been pressed into service to  check the other coaches as well as the platforms.

Security alert has been increased in all stations and trains in Andhra Pradesh.
