Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi held the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) responsible for Mahatma Gandhi's death. On Thursday, Rahul had said that RSS people had killed Mahatma Gandhi while addressing a rally in Maharashtra's Thane district.
Rahul during his speech at the rally stated that RSS members had been responsible for Gandhiji's death, while some of their people (BJP) today talk about him as their idol.
He even pointed out that when Sardar Patel and Gandhiji were alive the same people (RSS) had opposed them.
The Sangh was miffed at Rahul Gandhi's remark at the rally accusing 'RSS people' of being responsible for the Mahatma's death. In fact, the outfit has threatened to take legal action against the Congress leader.
RSS spokesperson Ram Madhav in his Twitter post said that the Sangh will initiate legal action against Rahul Gandhi and book a complaint with the Election Commission.
Madhav termed Rahul Gandhi's remark, linking Gandhi's murder with RSS, as 'irresponsible utterances'.
Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on 30 January 1948 by Nathuram Godse, who shot him at point-blank range. Godse, was an ex-member of RSS from Pune, Maharashtra, and had resentment against Gandhi for being partial to India's Muslims. He had plotted Gandhi's assassination along with Narayan Apte and six others. Godse was sentenced to death on 8 November 1949 and hanged a week later.
