Rahul Gandhi seems quite popular among women in Assam. On Wednesday the Congress vice president got kisses from Assamese women who definitely admire him. Apparently they were thrilled by his talks on women empowerment.

Gandhi was addressing almost 600 women from self-help groups in Assam's Jorhat when the incident took place. During the meet the women asked Rahul about the Congress party's policy on women's security, development and reservation.

Some women came up to the 43-year-old Gandhi to shake his hand. Two female fans were so thrilled to meet him that they expressed their happiness by kissing him. One women kissed his forehead while another went a step ahead and gave a peck on his cheek. The Congress leader had not anticipated such warm welcome from the women and was left embarrased.

So what attracted the kiss?

The Congress leader told the gathering that women are more confident, have stronger will power, have greater patience and talent than men. They are capable of becoming Prime Minister or Chief Minister, MPs and MLAs, said Rahul.

On the issue of women's reservation, Gandhi said they deserve 50% in state assemblies and Parliament and not just 33% that is currently prevalent. Besides he stated that North East women have greater talent and are more brave.

The Congress leader also gave assurance that his party will ensure more schemes and centres for the empowerment of women.
