Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton blamed herself partly for the affair between her husband and former US president Bill Clinton and the White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

According to new documents revealed, Hillary told her best friend Diane Blair, a political-science professor who died in 2000, that the intern was a lunatic. During a private chat with Blair, Clinton also called Monica Lewinsky a 'narcissistic loony toon'.

Clinton attributed Bill's affair to politics, the loneliness that comes with the presidency and her personal failures as a wife, reported News.com.au.

But finally when Clinton admitted to having had an affair after denying repeatedly that he did not have sex with "that woman, Miss Lewinsky," Hillary stood by his side and defended Bill over the phone to Blair. She even gave credit to Clinton for trying to break off from Lewinsky.
