The autopsy report of Arunachal student Nido Taniam is out.

The post-mortem findings affirm that the 19-year-old student succumbed to the head injuries he had incurred during the fateful brawl at a sweet shop in Delhi's Lajpat Nagar market on 29 January.

The autopsy report claims that the young student died of "severe internal bleeding and injuries to head and face." The report puts to rest all other speculations on the possible reason of his death. Some speculated that Nido didn't die of injuries, but drug overdose.

Reacting to the report, social activist Binalakshmi Nepram said that it was good that rumors of him dying due to a drug overdose had been nullified.

"He was beaten with sticks and iron rods... rumors said medications were the cause of death but I'm glad it is confirmed and I hope no other child suffers the death Nido did," she said.

The autopsy report will now be presented in the Delhi High Court. Last week, the High Court had lambasted the Delhi cops for its poor investigation and slow progress.

Taniam, a first-year B.Sc student from Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar, got into a brawl with local police, but then was allegedly dropped back into the same spot where he was mercilessly beaten up by a mob. He suffered grave injuries and succumbed to them a day after.

Three people have been detained in connection with Taniam's death so far. Three other suspects are still out in the open. Those arrested have been booked under the SC/ST act.

However, with the autopsy report confirming that the cause of death was injuries to the head, the charges could be escalated to homicide now.
