Rabble-rouser MNS chief Raj Thackeray made an offensive comment on writer Shobha De, after she tweeted openly supporting statehood for Mumbai.
Thackeray re-tweeted on her tweet that “creating a state was not as easy as getting a divorce and she would understand that.”
He was reacting to this tweet: "Maharashtra and Mumbai??? Why not? Mumbai has always fancied itself as an independent entity, anyway. This game has countless possibilities".
Reacting on Thackeray's insensitivity, De said: "It was satirical tweet in the context of on the formation of Telangana, not to be taken literally. I'm neither recommending it not endorsing it."
She said her comment was more in context with the upcoming elections where in a lot of political parties will try to draw mileage out of the situation.
She said Mumbai as a city state was an idea mooted many years ago. "Whether it happens or not is an area of speculation," she said.
De ignored Thackeray's comment, saying: "It's all right! Raj is known about making very provocative comments... he is also a cartoonist and I take his comments as seriously as his cartoons. He should understand satire better than anyone else.”
