Tesla is one of the most popular automobile company in the world. This company was founded by Elon Musk and develops electric cars which are smartly designed and one of a kind. These cars run on battery and electricity, so they need charging stations. India does not host these charging stations but there are 4 celebrities who risked and bought it anyways! Here is a list of 4 Indians who own a Tesla in India.

1. Mukesh Ambani

I guess we all saw this coming. Mukesh Ambani is one out of the 4 people in India to own a Tesla. He owns a Model S with a five door sedan which is the largest ever fitted into a Tesla.. Model S is also the most luxurious and expensive Tesla which is 2 crore rupees including import duty. The car is completely environmental friendly and leather free. The car delivers 500 kilometers on driving and is registered to Reliance Industries. At least now we know how he charges his car!

2. Prashanth Ruja

Prashanth Ruja is the CEO of Essar. He is the first owner of a Tesla in India. He imported a Model X which has incredible battery life and is an SUV. The car price along with import duty comes up to an approximate of 2 crore rupees.

Surprisingly, this car is a gift given to the actor by his wife Genelia D’Souza. She gifted him a Model X in distinctive red. The actor however, has moved along with his wife to the United States where they use this car.

The actress had recently moved to Los Angeles, California and has bought a new Tesla while staying in the city. She owns a Model -3 level entry mode which is the best selling Tesla. In the US, it is estimated to cost about 30 lakh rupees.

There are currently no plans regarding Tesla coming to India. It might be difficult to use a Tesla automobile in India due to multiple reasons. One, being that Tesla cars run on battery and need charging stations and India does not have any compatible charging stations for cars which will make it difficult for car maintenance. Number two, India does not have suitable roads to host sports cars and electric cars. There are only a very few well maintained roads.

Even if Tesla automobiles were to come to India, it can easily take more than a decade to set up warehouses, charging stations, acquire licenses and to gain customers. Elon Musk is expanding Tesla this year to countries including China (Shanghai), Germany and the state of Texas. He currently has warehouses and battery stations in parts of the USA, Switzerland, Norway, UK, Canada and France to name a few.

Elon Musk had sold the most number of Tesla cars in history in the final quarter which is Q4 of 2020 rounding up to a total of 400,000 cars being sold during the entire year. Musk stated that in his 10 years or more of working at Tesla he did not even believe they would even sell 10% of this number.

The automobile company had become widely popular after the company dropped the Cyber Truck model which is an electric car. However, its shape and structure is completely different looking than a regular car. It has tinted bullet proof glass and comes in the colors gray, silver and black although you have the option to customize the color once you purchase. This car can only be purchased via the internet making all its features unique.
