Chinese business magnate and billionaire Jack Ma on Thursday said that people should be able to work just 12 hours a week with the help of artificial intelligence. He is known for arguing in favor of a 12-hour workday.
During the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, the Alibaba Group Holding Ltd, co-founder said that people can work as few as three days a week, four hours a day with the help of technology advancement and reform in education systems.
According to a Bloomberg report, Ma cited the example of electricity of how developments in technology can help in getting time for leisure. He has been quoted saying: “The power of electricity is that we make people more time so that you can go to karaoke or dancing party in the evening. I think because of artificial intelligence, people will have more time enjoying being human beings.”
Jack Ma further said. “If we don’t change the education system we are in, we will all be in trouble.”
Earlier in April, Jack Ma justified the "996 system", which means working from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for six days a week. Stating 996 system actually like a blessing, he said that without this way of working, the economy would be affected. He was later, however, received criticism with many calling him out for promoting a slave culture.
