What is this Android “L”?

And the suspense over Google's latest "L" Android keeps deepening. And no, even Google's easter eggs packed in the OS hasn't been able to help us guess what “L” in the Android stands for.

Ever since the early days of Android, hitting the version number in the About Phone screen has been throwing up easter eggs related to the specific version. For example, it had a Gingerbread Android in a zombie artwork Android 2.3 Gingerbread and a KitKat-style Android in the last version.

This time around too, we have Webdriver Torso videos in YouTube. The videos show random squares and rectangles intersecting on screen to form right angles, possibly making an L shape.

Long-pressing the constantly changing combination of shapes throws you into the same dessert rack that first showed up with KitKat. Here the colors are less fluorescent than in KitKat and we spotted a few new desserts that Google has thrown in just to mock you Android L detectives.

We spotted a Layer Cake and a Lemon Pie. Another image looked like custard or pudding with caramel dripping down, and another looked like a bagel with a slice of cheese that is no way a dessert.

Whether Google is simply trolling all arm-chair detectives, or keeping its options open is something we are yet to find out. Meanwhile, keep guessing.
