On Monday, Samsung introduced a variety of new functionalities that will soon be available for the Galaxy Watch through the One UI 8 Watch update, focusing on fostering healthier lifestyles for users. According to the company, one of the key additions is Bedtime Guidance, which determines the most suitable time for users to go to bed by examining their sleep patterns from the last three days. In addition, the Vascular Load feature assesses the stress placed on the vascular system during sleep. It is important to note that some of these enhancements will only be applicable to select models within the Galaxy Watch lineup. Samsung provided a detailed overview of the One UI 8 Watch features in a newsroom announcement.

The Bedtime Guidance function is designed to notify users of their ideal bedtime. The Galaxy Watch analyzes sleep pressure and the circadian rhythm by reviewing sleep data collected over the previous three days, subsequently recommending a bedtime that optimizes alertness for the following day. This feature is particularly beneficial for individuals working to correct inconsistent sleep habits.

Another introduction, Vascular Load, is aimed at understanding the stress on the vascular system during rest and offers insights relating to sleep, physical activity, and stress levels. To utilize this feature effectively, users must wear their smartwatch while they sleep. Samsung has also created the Running Coach feature to support safe training for intense physical pursuits like marathons. This tool delivers real-time feedback and custom training plans, incorporating injury-prevention strategies tailored to the individual’s fitness levels. To activate Running Coach, users need to run for 12 minutes while wearing the Galaxy Watch, which will then analyze their performance and assign a running score from 1 to 10. Using this data, the watch generates a personalized training regimen to assist with marathon preparation.

The final feature, Antioxidant Measurement, which was recently reported to be included with the Galaxy Watch 8 series, measures levels of beta carotene in just five seconds by utilizing the light-sensitive BioActive Sensor located on the back of the watch. This function encourages users to embrace healthier lifestyle changes by offering insights into their habits.

It is worth noting that both the Antioxidant Index and Vascular Load features are exclusive to the Galaxy Watch Ultra and later versions. All three newly introduced features are compatible with Android smartphones running version 10 or later and require the installation of the Samsung Health application.
