In a move to boost flagging sales, Apple has cut prices of its latest iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus by up to 16%. The move comes just after two months of their launch in India.

iPhone 6s 16 GB model was introduced on 16 October at Rs 62,000, and the price has fallen by 11-16%, now ranging between Rs 52,000 and Rs 55,000, as cited by TOI as per four large retailers as speaking to ET. The gap with cost of iPhone 6 devices launched in 2014, was also narrowed with the reduction. This facilitates customers to upgrade easily.

A senior executive of national retailer said, "The price difference between the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s was a lot, so many customers are not willing to upgrade to the new model."

Counterpoint Technology Market Research senior analyst Tarun Pathak said that this is for the first time that an Apple flagship price as brought down within the two months period of the launch.

"Now that they have aligned prices, we can see some sales happening in future quarters, which will also sustain Apple in the typically weaker periods of January to September," Pathak added.

After the Apple iPhone 5s prices were slashed for third time in three months, the recent price cuts came. Now the devices start at Rs 24,999, almost half of the price in September.
